Biography

I’m working on a biography of suffrage campaigner and pacifist Millicent Price (née Browne).

I was also collaborating with Antonia Raeburn (The Militant Suffragettes, 1974) on a book based on Antonia’s interviews with former suffragettes in the 1960s and 1970s. Since Antonia’s death in 2021, I will be completing that work.

Some of the topics I’ve covered in my talks:-

  • Researching ordinary lives in the eighteenth century.
  • Aspects of eighteenth-century history, eg pugilism, enclosures, exploration.
  • The suffrage campaign in Bristol and other areas; the campaign in Wales.
  • The anti-suffrage movement.

I have run workshops on writing and researching historical fiction, suffrage history, and lead guided walks about the Bristol suffragettes.

For further information or if you’d like to book me for an event you can contact me here.

My talks are usually illustrated, and so the venue will need to provide facilities for Powerpoint (screen and projector; or TV screen; cabling; I can bring a laptop). If you would like to ask about a talk without illustrations or have any other questions, please get in touch.
